The Last Entry edition by Cheryl Reavis Literature Fiction eBooks

This was WAY different from the other books by Cheryl Reavis that I have read. There are three short stories. Some very short. The first is The Last Entry. An Amish boy and a non-Amish girl grow up together on neighboring farms. When they become teens the friendship is inappropriate and since he is deeply into his upbringing and religion their worlds divide them. She goes on to high school and college, growing further away from him. The male/female attachment is there but there is nothing they can do about it. he is too Amish and she is too "English".

This is a sad one because of the hopelessness of their love. It was a good short story but it left me sad. I would still recommend it.

The second story Daughters of the Sea is very short. The town "bad girl turned bad woman" shows up at the wake for a local woman highly respected and friends to all. Her granddaughter is puzzled as to why the family seems to hate her. She disregards them and takes part anyway. Then she pulls the granddaughter aside and talks to her telling her how her grandmother was kind to her and helped her through bad times. Then a big secret is revealed. Caught me totally off guard. A good story and well worth reading. Teaches a lot of things if you really look between the lines. Recommend it as well.

The 3rd and last story The Opera Ain't Over Till The Fat Lady Sings. A mother who is a very talented artist and her daughter who is a painter in her own right but not near what the mother is. They seem to be oil and water. The mother is a very free spirit, living her life as she chooses. and on her own terms. The daughter seems to be a bit of a stiff neck and constantly trying to change the mother. To be honest, I didn't get this one. I'm really confused as to what the message was since it ended a little weird. I'm just not sure what happened.

I do recommend the book and the short stories are all very interesting. Not the typical C. Reavis books to me though. This was just different.

Pleasurable reading
Loved this book of short stories. I love everything thing I have read by this author but so far these short stories are my favorite. Each of them left me hoping to hear more. A pure delight.
I never get enough of Cheryl Reavis's books. This collection of short stories allows the reader to know why her women's fiction voice is even stronger than her romance one.
Anything Cheryl Reavis writes will be snapped up by me. This was the first chance to read her short stories. As always, she gives a deep look into the human heart. My only complaint too short.
Thought I had read all titles by Cheryl Reavis. Interesting short stories, would have liked more story on each of them!
All three stories in the trilogy deal with love and loss in its many guises, and each story leaves the reader longing for more. A father and son ultimately estranged forever, a grandmother mourned by family and friends, all of them the beneficiaries of her love, and an artist who can't connect with her daughter but who can dazzle any man she chooses. All of these characters are unforgettable, and their stories will stay in your heart long after you finish reading.
